If you have big, open windows on the front of your store, there is one upgrade you need to make: adding window films. These are large sheets of sticky, plastic material that a professional can come apply to your windows. There are several different varieties of window films, but any variety made specifically for retail stores is bound to be a decent choice. Here are four reasons to have such a film installed on your windows.

1. Window film blocks UV rays

Make sure you choose a film that blocks UV light. UV rays are known for their tendency to cause skin damage and cancer, but they are also harmful to your store's interior. They will bleach out materials like your carpet and flooring. They may even bleach out some of your merchandise if you display it in the window. With a window film in place, you can create a nice window display without worrying that the products will look faded in a few weeks' time.

2. Window films prevent damage during storms

If there is a big storm in your area, a tree branch may blow into the store window, or the wind itself may just rock and shatter the window. With window film, however, the many pieces of broken glass will stay attached on one side to the window film rather than flying all over the store. This reduces the risk of injuries, both to anyone who happens to be inside the store and to the person or people who have to clean up the broken glass.

3. Criminals will have a harder time breaking in

Many of the window films sold to retail stores are security window films. This means, as discussed above that they do not break easily when the glass breaks. Not only does this come in handy during storms, but it also protects against theft and crime. If someone tries to break in, they will have a hard time getting through the film, even if the window itself shatters.

4. Window films add insulation

Some window films are advertised to add insulation, while others are not. Even those that are not advertised to add insulation to decrease the heat transfer through a window somewhat. The plastic the films are made from is less absorptive of heat than are glass windows. With window films, your store's air conditioning and heating bills should go down.
