If you are renovating your bathroom or simply looking to replace the mirror, one of the first decisions you will have to make is whether to use a framed mirror or a frameless mirror. Frameless mirrors are more common in a bathroom, but this does not necessarily mean it is always the right decision for your space. Learning the pros and cons of a frameless mirror will help you determine which is the better choice for your bathroom. Here are a couple of the pros and cons of frameless bathroom mirrors.

The Cons of a Frameless Bathroom Mirror

  • They Look Cookie-Cutterish

One of the downsides to a frameless bathroom mirror is that they have a cookie cutter look to them. When you step into most peoples bathrooms you see either an oval or rectangular frameless mirror. If you are looking to make your bathroom unique and personalized, you may want a mirror that stands out from the rest. A frameless one will not help you with this goal.

  • The Edges May Chip Easier

The other disadvantage to a frameless mirror is that the edges are more prone to chipping than in a framed mirror. This is because there is not a frame helping to protect the edges of the mirror . It is more likely that the edges will begin to chip if the mirror is frequently touched or moved. But chipping can also occur due to age or moisture and condensation building up on the mirror.

The Pros of a Frameless Bathroom Mirror

  • Frames Aren't Usually Best in Moist or Humid Environments

The biggest benefit to a frameless mirror is that you don't have to worry about caring for a frame. Most mirror frames are made from either metal or wood. And both of these materials are not ideal is moist or humid environments, such as bathrooms. Wood can split or warp and metal can rust or corrode. If you want to minimize the amount of maintenance work you have to do with your mirror, a frameless mirror is the best choice.

  • Makes the Most of the Small Space

The other advantage to a frameless mirror is that it helps you to make the most of a small space. A large mirror helps to reflect more light and space, making a small space, such as a bathroom, seem larger. When you get a framed mirror, part of your wall space is being taken up by the frame, minimizing the amount of light and space that can be reflected.

When you are looking to install a new mirror in your bathroom, take the time to learn about different options and to view different types of mirrors. Taking a look at the mirrors and then learning the pros and cons of each type will help you select the type of bathroom mirror that is the best fit for your space.
